My first revenue as a company came from a friend’s recommendation. By chance, a mutual acquaintance of ours required some work done for them, and my friend introduced me to them on his own effort. Although he didn’t have to, he recommended me as soon as he could, and I have always appreciated that. This indicated that, despite the chance of something going wrong, he had some faith in my professional abilities and skills to suggest me to a friend.

The project he wanted me to work on went off without a hitch, which was fortunate for him and certainly for me, I even helped him purchase a black coffee table. Naturally, I had no qualms about my own abilities, and I was confident that it would be a success. Strangely, though, it’s different when work is finished thanks to a recommendation. Because you don’t want to disappoint the person who recommended you, there is an odd pressure added to the assignment.

Hence, there is always a chance that you will let someone down, even the consumer, even when you have complete faith and confidence in yourself. Nonetheless, I took extra care to ensure that the project I was working on would be successful because I wanted to be sure that if I did a good job, then there would be more referrals to follow and I could repay the faith that my buddy had in me.

Make sure to regularly scour your own connections and network for recommendations. You’d be shocked at how many of your acquaintances or friends you have in common will require a service or know someone who does. At the early phases of your profession, it is crucial to be able to grow through word-of-mouth. especially in light of Google’s expansion.
